General information

Yet another collection of original compositions as a celebration of my first totally original album, which was released just 1 year ago (for April Fools 2024, yeah). This one is bigger and longer, tho. I don't know if it's better or worse, but definitively it is more varied. I included an even wider range of influences combined with my usual synth metal - or whatever label you would use to define what I do.

From folk to electronica influences, relaxing and agressive stuff... a bit of everything. If you like variety in metal and you don't mind a totally "MIDI sound", you might enjoy this thing. No suitable for trves, tho; you are warned!

Also don't expect a super professionally produced album. This is more like what you'd expect to find in a day of randow brosing on MySpace or Soundclick profiles, or an old static HTML artist site with MP3 download links in the 2000s. It's not like I deliberately aimed for that vibe, but it just happens. Which is not coincidence, since I grew up listening to and enjoying a lot of that underground music stuff back in my preteens.

Every note (including percussions), every automation control and everything was manually written in a DAW (LMMS specifically). No AI or anything remotely close was used (maybe not a good time to go hard into music making, right?). No one else collabing either. Just me and my ancient computer in the darkness of a small, rough bedroom.

All songs have a high dose of improvisation. Mostly just tinkering with the DAW and whatever bizarre ideas comes to my rotten mind without overthinking on cohession. As a consequence this collection of demos is a total, assorted chaos and most songs have not even a proper structure.

In an ideal future the plan is to polish many of the songs from all these "Placeholder" releases (the best or "less worse" ones, at least!) and feature a bunch of talented performers and friends to play with real instruments, just like I often do with my VGM arrangements. In the meanwhile, I'll keep focusing on just toying with more of these ideas and release whatever I have done each year.

Anyways, there's enough of this boring wall of text! Just listen and (hopefully) enjoy this bizarre piece of (pseudo)art! If you dare...

All tracks composed, recorded, mixed, etc by Unknown Pseudoartist at Ancient Computer Studios (Unknown Lands) between April 2024 - March 2025.

All made by a real human (or maybe a real bird?). No AI or anything remotely close was used.

Thanks to the people in ThaSauce for the inspiration and good vibes in their weekly compos (OHC and 2HTS specifically). It's barely a couple of years since I dared to try composing my own songs and that community is the ideal place to get motivated to try more often, and in an ambiance that is friendly and relaxed (despite the very short events, yeah).

Also thanks to my dear baby cat Kira, once again, for allowing me to use her photos as a model to protagonize my music albums' artworks and stuff.

01 - Into The Unknown Lands

Style / influences: power / thrash metal

What's a proper album without a proper intro? So here we go, straight to the point but with a couple seconds of noise ambiance to introduce you into the chaotic realms of the Unknown Lands.

The inspiration came from a weird dream I once had while living temporarily out in a rented apartment. There was sometime that mysterious door that no one knew where it goes to; we didn't even have the keys. Appearently this mystery was interesting enough to get into my dreams. And so while sleeping I was curious to go and managed to open the door and check it on my own.

What awaited me in the inside was a totally different, huge world of fantasy. Full of bizarre and unusual creatures: from big red flowers that would open and close their petals in an endless loop, to all sorts of colorful random animals running and jumping all around.

02 Icarus Syndrome

Style / influences: hard rock

We all know the story and myth of Icarus, right? That guy who pretended to fly too high and his wings burnt, collaping to the floor

Before doing any research, I just though of a title like "Icarus syndrome" to talk about an attitude I see too often everywhere. Basically the pretension to aim too high and that ambition eventually ending with you. Not gonna lie; I noticed some shades of this even in myself sometimes, and it's not something I'd personally encourage.

I tried to express this thoughout music here, creating an atmosphere that can be perceived as both happy and dark. Full of catchy and somewhat optimistic melodies covered by some creepy tension.

03 - Rise And Fall

Style / influences: heavy / power metal

«If you fall 100 times, then rise 101 times.»

I heard that sentence many times but honestly I don't know who's the author, and a simple web search brings too many varied results with no clear conclusion.

This is also that kind of project that starts as a really small, meaningless thing that somewhat grows deep on us. I just started it as an impulsive moment of inspiration for a simple and straight "Iron Maiden style doubled lead guitars" melody. It was not until more than half a year later that I tried extending these few measures of music into an attempt of a fully-structure song.

I soon noticed that had a somewhat happy and energetic vibe and "what if we go down with the mood for a moment". That's where the idea for the "bardcore?" interlude came, to later gradually go back to power metal. I then felt like this song represents very well my feelings and mood of the moment. Just like life itself, this song has its moments of falling and then rising again at full strength.

04 - Wild Wood Winds

Style / influences: folk metal

Just an attempt of an ordinary asian folk influenced metal tune. Not much to say here.

As usual for these original tunes, this was inspired by my own long walks in the far outdoors. So this one could be very much the moment when, after a really long route you finally reach that desired place and you stop and sit there to take a rest and drink some water, eat some of your backpack's supplies, etc. A pleasant moment to just relax while you observe the sky, the plants, the flowers and the sky and listen to the wind and the birds. Like a samurai from old times taking the time to check the beautiful sakura flowers and landscape after a hard battle.

Once you recovered enough energy it's the time to continue your route. A long while awaits you until you are back home!

05 - Outcast in the Outdoors

Style / influences: energic punk / power metal

A dark yet somewhat happy and energetic tune. With the agressivity and tones of metal but the energy and chaoticness of punk rock. Mostly basic and simple chords, chugs and riffs and arpeggios.

Just like the other tracks in this second original album, this is inspired my long walks in the outdoors. This one not so much in the nature areas but more like that typical small town you accidentally step in. That kind of place where everyone knows each other but you happen to be a stranger.

This track somewhat represents that funny moment when you are a funny stranger in a distant, small land yet you are that happy and enthusiast in your journey.

05 - Digital Daemon

Style / influences: electronic / industrial metal

Some aggressive industrial, chiptune-oriented synth metal, or whatever you may call this thing.

Originally composed to be part of "Daemon's Day pt 2: Holy Daemon", a non-profit imitative album to support Sean Babbitt's son after he was an unfortunate victim of gun violence.

The title "Digital Daemon" was inspired by his own nickname, "Daemon9623" along with the game sagas "Digital Devil". In musical terms I aimed for some kind of chiptune metal style. That became closer to industrial, but still a vibe I'm happy with. Drum programming is unreasonably fast and unrealistic in purpose. This is closer to electronic than to metal, after all! Not a song intended to be performed by real humans at all.

07 - The Antichristmas Is Coming!

Style / influences: chill (early), metal (later)

It's not a secret that I'm not a huge fan of Christmas, but of course I have nothing against the billions of humans celebrating and having fun. Just not my thing, because multiple reasons.

So if I had to make some christmas inspired tune, my direction would go to a somewhat different direction. And different, punny tune.

In musical terms, this is a simple but hard to define attempt of a dark, slightly-christmas-ish tune. A chill beginning with piano arpeggios moving to some kind of electro metal with crunch guitars and flutes as leads. Nothing special but still weird.

08 - Grow Under Tension

Style / influences: electronic / pseudo-prog

Another simple but hard-to-define instrumental. Initial intention was to try something in the vein of Motoi Sakuraba's usual "prog rock without guitars", but just as usual that moved to a somewhat different style.

I wouldn't dare to label this as prog or experimental, but definitively not sticking to any plain standard either.

There are some flutes and piano melodies, and while kinda chaotic it's mostly melodic enough. I personally feel some sense of uneasiness and slow but constant tension vibes that may fit with today typical, fast-paced lifestyle. Constantly living under tension and noticing the need for some calm and peace to eventually arrive. Just sitting there and seeing the world passing by.

09 - Growl On The Water

Style / influences: hardcore / industrial metal

A very low-tuned industrial, electronic synth metal piece. Inspired by the depths of the sea, so production and sound may be a bit weird. Full of crunchy, muffled riffs and electronic drums combined with slightly organic elements and ambiance sounds. Nothing too complex at all.

The title is a joke with the famous Deep Purple hit "Smoke on the water" but shares absolutely no similarity with the mentioned track beyond that.

10 - Unfinished Battle Against Deadline

Style / influences: JRPG battle theme

Technically unfinished but still showing the idea pretty clear. This was meant to sound like a generic 90s JRPG battle theme, which were mostly inspired by prog-rock back in the time.

The title is based in Sakuraba's well known tune "Unfinished battle with god syndrome" and the fact that I had to make it in 1 hour for a weekly compo and... well, just did what I could.

11 - Unfinished Trip

Style / influences: ambient / electronic

Another tune that is technically unfinished but showing the idea clear enough.

Basically this is meant to be a quick trip to space. So there's plenty of electronic and ambiance sounds and barely any melodies at all.

12 - No Rest For The Nest

Style / influences: anime metal opening

After the calm, storm comes back! So now we go with a quick but intense and energic rock/metal tune.

This one is unfinished, too. In fact, I couldn't think of any proper lead melodies in time and so decided to label this as some kind of "karaoke version", as well as "TV size" because its short length.

There's an improvised vocal version in the bonus tracks included in the full album download, btw, in case you are interested. Just don't expect it to have a good vocal style or lyrics at all. You'll soon know what I mean haha.

13 - 【The Last Song】

Style / influences: ambient / chill out

...And now after the storm, calm comes back! Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your own experience) this is the end. The last song ... for now!

Basically tried a calm, chill out inspired tune influenced by the imagery of a relaxed place with a take and the ducks. And yeah, some weird outro to put an end to this.

In case that weren't obvious, the format/style in the title is a reference to the styling that is common in synthwave, vaporware and similar genres. Hopefully not causing any incompatibily issues with whatever software people uses!
