General information

Just like 2024 was the year for Tales of Phantasia, 2025 was the year for Terranigma, Illusion of Gaia and other games like Actraiser, Soul Blazer and Terranigma. These wonderful, unique games made by Quintet in the 90s for the SNES. These never archieved the popularity of the big franchises, but their fandom is among the most passionate I can think of.

Totally unforgettable masterpieces with awesome soundtracks that rarely gets any love from other VGM musicians (we'd add an exception for Actraiser here, tho). So here we are to make some justice.

This may sound a bit too sudden, but actually some of the tracks were initially started sometime around mid 2022. So technically this is the work of nearly 4 years. Now all these old tracks got some considerable upgrades along with new and not-so-new ones.

Once again it's hard to define this in terms of genre or style. I move mostly into metal as usual, but so much of variety and influences both inside and outside metal... And some tracks go just a bit too far from the line this time. My previous VGM album, "Songs of Phantasia", is now pretty conservative in comparision!

So you may expect lots of rock and metal but also lots of clarinets, flutes and other things. Just like its title "Songs of Light and Darkness" suggests, you may also expect lots of dark and light stuff, oftentimes combined in a same vibe.

Seriously, maybe I shouldn't be not the one to say that, but I'm so happy with how all went with this project! There's plenty of quality, quantity and variety, and not a single second of boredom of repetitiveness. 15 tracks and still place for some bonus tracks with demos and "not so cool" arrangements of even more tunes from these great games.

This time I'm also lucky to count with someone (The Vodoú Queen) who helped on the mastering to make these tracks to shine, so you'll notice all sounds better than my usual stuff. Besides her, the album has a lot of talented performers in all tracks, as usual for my VGM arrangements. So you can only expect some good result.

Are you ready for the journey? You'll go throughout a bunch of dark and light moments. Moments when you are impulsively headbanging, moments when you want to cry, moments when you want to just chill around, moments when you want to dance... there's a lot of stuff in barely 40 minutes of music, you are warned! ;)
